Every day there are logs of application for double sided tape. It’s widely used around us. However not many of us that can use it very successfully. It may look very simple to use. But it require your patience & correct steps.

We write this article to share with you how to use double sided tapes.

Ther are many types of double sided tapes ( you can check this article: Different Types Of Double Sided Tape ), including Tissue Tape & Foam Tape. Below steps that can work for all of them.

Step 1: Clean & Dry the Surface

This step is very important. Because it can affects the strength of the bond directly. A clean & dry surface will ensure a good performance. A cleaning fluid or alcohol can be used at this moment. Remove any dirt, dust, or debris to ensure that the tape sticks properly. Then we need to wait until it is completely dry.

Step 2: Confirm Desirm Desired Length & Cut The Tape in Advance

If you could cut the tape in a suitable size at the very beginning, that will help your work goes smoothly, and you don’t need to cut it at twice. Also it won’t lead to waste of tape. Some double sided tapes come in rolls and can be easily cut to size with scissors.

Step 3: Confirm the Position & Peel Off The Backing Paper

First, we need to confirm the position and then Place the Tape Onto the Back of the Object. Because as long as you stick the tape on the object, it’s hard to move and change the position again. If you got a wrong place for the tape, it will affect the bonding strength. So be careful & confirm the position first. Then Peel off the backing paper from one side of the tape. Make sure to only remove the backing paper from one side of the tape, as the other side will be used to stick to the other surface.

Step 4: Apply the Type to One Surface & Press Down

Apply the exposed adhesive side of the tape to one of the surfaces you want to bond. Press down firmly to ensure that the tape sticks properly. Be noted that you have to keep pressing for few seconds, that can help to make a great coincide.

Step 5: Peel Off the Remaining Backing Paper

Pell off the backing paper from the other side of the tape.

Step 6: Apply The Other Surface to The Tape

Apply the other surface to the exposed adhesive side of the tape. Press down firmly to ensure that the two surfaces are bonded together securely. Be noted: Please keep pressing for a few seconds.

Step 7: Repeat The Process As Needed

Repeat the process as needed to apply more tape, or to bond additional surfaces together.

Second you have to do it in Right Way. Removing the liner (backing paper of double sided tape) with right ways will make your job better & easy.

▶  Step 1: Make the surface of target clean & smooth

As we know double sided tape has very strong adhesion. And that is what we want. However if the surface of target is dirt, it will affects the strength of the bond definitely. Only keep the surface of object is clean & smooth, its stickiness will be at the most. Then when you peel off the liner and the film won’t move.

▶  Step 2: Confirm how much tapes that you gonna need

Before you start using tape, you have to confirm how many tapes that you may need. Using scissor cut the tape at the length you need. But please only cut with small parts, like 1/8 or 1/4 width, then rip the rest of tape by hand. Because we don’t need a very smooth edge, we need an uneven edge, that can make the liner to pop up, which can help to remove the liner better.

▶  Step 3: Press the tape with your hand for a while

Right now you can use the tape to work on the project you need. After the tape placed on the objectively, please press the tape with your hand for a while, that can help enhance adhesion.

▶  Step 4: Drag release liner away from the film of tape

Through step 1 & step 2, it can help to keep a high adhesion. and the tape film will follow object strongly. Now we can drag release liner away from the film of tape. Start with the corner you ripped at beginning, please work slowly and also using another finger to squeeze or pinch the liner another place.

Maybe you will meet some problems at the beginning. But only you keep enough patient and follow the 4 steps above, if your double sided tape quality is okay, sure you can peel double sided tape successfully.
